Critics from well received publications such as the Chicago Sun, the New York Times and the Los Angeles Times give insight into the opinion of viewers and critics at the time the controversial documentary was released. These opinions and critiques of the film lead the audience to see the metaphorical mirror that the documentary holds up to society, leading us to question social classes and what we really are. Additionally, these reviews all begin to touch on the paradox seen within the culture through the ball contestants competing to imitate the very cultural norms that have set out to destroy them.
